The traditional art market has long grappled with a fundamental vulnerability: the fragility of trust. For centuries, provenance — the documented history of an artwork’s ownership — has relied on paper certificates that are easily forged, lost, or altered.
As a Certified Independent Auditor in Brazil (CNAI 4454) and an artist (ESRAC) with more than 100 artworks in my own production catalog, I have developed the RAMOS.ART gallery integrated with the ESRAC.ART protocol. This is not merely a creative space, but a model for Art Governance that integrates the expressive power of visual arts with the structural rigor of Cryptographic Custody and Blockchain technology.
Beyond the NFT Hype
It is crucial to distinguish this model from the common “NFT hype.” While Non-Fungible Tokens often focus on speculative digital assets and volatile “coins,” our focus is on the physical artwork and its legal integrity and provenance. We do not transform art into a “coin”; we use blockchain as an immutable ledger to anchor a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) to its physical counterpart, the artwork and to its unique actual owner. At RAMOS.ART, we prioritize security and documentation over speculation.
The Business Model: Provenance as a Standard
In my practice, art is never sold without a verified digital trail. Our model is built on three pillars:
- Primary Market Excellence: Original works directly from the studio of our curated artists through RAMOS.ART online auctions or intermediated sales.
- Secured Secondary Market: A platform where subsequent sales are tracked and validated through cryptographic custody in our private blockchain.
- Cryptographic Custody: Using the SHA-256 (Secure Hash Algorithm) to create a unique “Digital Fingerprint” for every CoA.
Mitigating Legal Risks and Theft
One of the most significant risks for art collectors is the unintended involvement in the trade of stolen art (under Brazilian law, Receptação, Art. 180 of the Penal Code).
By implementing a Private Blockchain, we eliminate this risk. Since every transaction and change of ownership is recorded in a tamper-proof chain of digital signatures starting from the Artist, the provenance is absolute. If a piece does not have its Hash verified via our official tools, its legitimacy is immediately compromised.
